As we travel along the strada dell’olio e del vino you will discover the culinary traditions of our city. A gastronomic event that may expose some of the secrets of Tuscany’s world renowned cuisine. Come and learn great recipes!
The olive culture in the hills of Lucca dates back to ancient times and oil products are amongst the most popular products of this area. Its popularity is world renowned thanks to its unique taste, colours and precious aroma.
Wine also represents another significant cultural aspect of Lucca, in fact, already around 1400 popes and princes showed their appreciation for it, as also the inhabitants of the cities of Pisa and Florence.
Upon arriving at the farmhouse, one may visit the wine cellar and oil mill to discover the ancient and new techniques used by the farmers. After this the skills to assess grades of olive oil and their origins are explained, along with pointers to detect flavour in the olives themselves.
Now the cooking class begins! Each participant will enjoy a hands-on experience, learning how to make different kinds of pasta and this brings about a happy and relaxed atmosphere.
Together with the chef you will prepare a delicious meal, in fact the pasta you will have prepared will be served at the end of the course. The group who will have made the best pasta will win an award.
Departure to the Villa
COOKING CLASSES IN LUCCA’S VILLAS
Departure in the morning or in the afternoon from the Villa to the Villa.
The Villas, or rather the palaces in villa, are the historical country residences that the Lucchesi merchants built between the 15th and 19th centuries, investing the fruits of their trading activities in central Europe.
The Lucchesi built their landscape as if they had no preoccupation other than its beauty and this is reflected by the presence of Villas and parks.
It is the work of an urban bourgeois who invested the fruit of its earnings in land bringing forth true masterpieces. The Villas each with its own distinctive architectural line, are also renown for the beauty of their parks and gardens.
Upon arrival the participants will be escorted on a guided tour of the Villa and gardens. It will be like going back in time to the sixteen, seventeen and eighteen hundreds. The interiors of the Villas are still very well kept and you will be able to admire the antique furniture and paintings that were commissioned by the family.
After a brief visit the participants will head off to the limonaia where they will put their hands to work! There will be a division into small groups of the participants; each will learn how to knead, roll out and cut pasta into various shapes. A great atmosphere will be enjoyed by all!
