Tasting of the Tuscan cigar
The legend tells that the Tuscan cigar was born, by chance, in Florence at the end of the XIX century, after a summer heaving shower that turned a lot of rain that soaked some barrels of Kentucky tobacco leaved outdoor.. To avoid the loss of the entire production, the tobacco was used as stuffing. In this way, for saving the material, ferment cigars without the sottofascia was created.
The happy accoglimento of the ferment tobacco contained in a leaf, induced other handcraft companies of Florence to do the same thing. The creation of this original cigar, that had a lot of success, became the pride of the Tuscany and for this reason it was defined “Tuscan Cigar”.
At the beginning of the XIX century a big factory was opened in Florence and it continued to work to1930, when this production remained productive only in the factories of Lucca and of Cava dei Tirreni. After the second world war, the ancient Tuscan cigar production continued only in Lucca, where the factory was located in an ancient convent of the centre of the town.
Today the Tobacco factory of Lucca is still productive and produces the Tuscan Cigar with the same techniques of 300 years ago.
